Choose Anker Solarbank 4 for the clearest documented all-round package and UK installation position. Choose EcoFlow STREAM 5000 if 3,000W home output, 3,600W backup sockets and the lowest current hardware price per usable kWh outweigh its electrician requirement and stock status. Consider Zendure 2400 AC+ for the £999 entry price and AC-coupled retrofit idea, but do not buy on a socket plug-in assumption until its UK wiring route is confirmed.
The verdict in 30 seconds
Best documented all-round choice: Anker SOLIX Solarbank 4 E5000 Pro. It combines 5.02 kWh usable storage, 2,500W home output, a 2,500W backup socket, direct solar inputs and expansion to 30 kWh. More importantly, Anker states the present UK route: a Part P electrician and dedicated circuit, with G98 approval claimed for the product.[1][2]
Best power and price-per-kWh on the checked hardware figures: EcoFlow STREAM 5000. Its £1,599 snapshot works out at about £319 per usable kWh, with 3,000W into the home and 3,600W backup sockets. The catches are material: it was out of stock when checked, requires a qualified electrician and must not feed the home through a household socket.[4]
Lowest entry price: Zendure SolarFlow 2400 AC+. At £999 it costs £600 less than EcoFlow and £700 less than Anker. But its base storage is only 2.4 kWh, roughly half the other two, and Zendure's exact UK wiring position was not confirmed in the material we checked.[3]
There is no honest winner without those qualifications. The right order is connection route first, usable energy second, total installed cost third.

The price-per-kWh row divides the checked base hardware price by stated usable storage. It excludes panels, add-on batteries, delivery, meters, electrician work and any other installation cost. It is a comparison aid, not a payback forecast.[1][3][4]
Connection rules decide the shortlist
The word plug-in is used loosely across this category. A product can accept plug-in solar panels, connect on its AC side, or provide appliance sockets without being permitted to feed a UK home through an ordinary wall socket. Those are different functions.
Anker gives the clearest current position of the three. It markets a simple 800W mode and a higher-output installed mode, but says the present UK route requires a Part P electrician on a dedicated circuit. Its product material also states G98 approval. Check the exact device and proposed installation with the installer and DNO route rather than treating a marketing badge as blanket permission.[1][2][6]
EcoFlow is more direct: STREAM must be connected by a qualified electrician and must not feed power into the home through a household socket. Zendure describes the 2400 AC+ as AC-coupled retrofit storage, but we have not found an equally clear UK connection statement for the exact model. That uncertainty is not proof of a problem; it is a question to resolve before payment.[3][4]

Capacity, power and backup
Anker and EcoFlow both start at 5.02 kWh, enough on paper to shift a meaningful block of electricity into the evening. Zendure's 2.4 kWh base is easier to buy but stores less than half as much. A smaller battery is not automatically worse: it can be the better fit when evening use is low and a 5 kWh unit would sit partly unused.
EcoFlow leads the published power figures with up to 3,000W into the home and 3,600W at its backup sockets. Anker follows with 2,500W installed output and a 2,500W backup socket. Zendure states 2,400W two-way AC power, but our checked material does not establish an equivalent standalone backup output.[1][3][4]
Output and capacity solve different problems. Capacity determines how long stored energy lasts; output determines what can run at once. Use smart-meter history to estimate the expensive-period kWh you can actually replace, then list any high-power loads that might overlap.
Price, value and likely payback
Zendure wins the sticker-price comparison at £999. EcoFlow was £1,599, down from £1,799, and Anker was £1,699 on preorder. On storage alone, however, EcoFlow produces the lowest base hardware price per usable kWh at roughly £319, followed by Anker at £338 and Zendure at £416.[1][3][4]
That arithmetic does not make EcoFlow the cheapest installed system. Electrician work, a dedicated circuit, panels, monitoring hardware and accessories can reorder the total. Stock also matters: a promotional price on an unavailable product is not a buying opportunity.
Do not use a maker's best-case saving as your forecast. Run your cheap rate, peak rate, expected cycles and usable capacity through the home battery savings calculator. Which battery fits which home?
- Choose Anker if you want the most complete documented package today: direct solar input, meaningful storage, backup, strong expansion and a stated UK installation route.
- Choose EcoFlow if higher home and backup output matter most, you accept electrician installation, and current stock plus the final installed quote work for you.
- Shortlist Zendure if £999 is the accessible starting point or AC-coupled retrofit storage fits existing solar. Get the exact UK wiring and grid route in writing before buying.
- Choose none yet if you do not know your expensive-period electricity use, cannot obtain the required property permission, or the tariff spread does not support the cost.
Renters and flat owners should also check landlord or freeholder permission, siting, escape routes and building rules. A compact box does not make those constraints disappear.
Our final ranking, with conditions
Anker Solarbank 4 ranks first for evidence and all-round fit, not because it has the biggest number in every row. The clear current installation statement removes a major unknown, while 5.02 kWh, 2,500W output, direct solar and backup cover the main home-storage jobs.
EcoFlow STREAM 5000 ranks first for published output and base hardware cost per usable kWh. It becomes the better choice than Anker when those advantages matter more than its stock position and you already expect a qualified electrical installation.
Zendure SolarFlow 2400 AC+ ranks first for lowest purchase price. It should not rank first as a general UK recommendation until the exact connection position is documented as clearly as the product specifications. If that evidence arrives, its role as a lower-cost retrofit option deserves reassessment.
